The LibUX Chicago book club met on Wednesday, August 9 at 6pm at Next Door Chicago. to dig into Speculative Everything by Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby.
Here is a snippet of a review from the Financial Times: "Designers are usually seen as problem solvers. Their function is to make a product better or more beautiful, or to make a process more efficient. But what if, instead of solving problems, they posed them? ...[Dunne and Raby's] concern is not to design products to be sent out into a slightly uncertain future but rather to imagine how that future might be entirely different. The result is a series of scenarios that help to illuminate moral, ethical, political and aesthetic problems." Attendees also read Patrick Jagoda's "Gamification and Other Forms of Play" as an introduction to the topic. Many thanks to John Jung and Amy Killebrew for convening the book club!
